#139: Tulsa Tough - Sunday / Rain out

Filed under: Races — Ryan @ 7:50 pm

Today’s course would have been interesting with a long and somewhat steep up pitch and a fast descent to a sharp corner. But a nasty line of storms came off the plains though Tulsa ended the event after a couple of races this morning. We went down to the course after weathering the storm in our westward facing 14th floor room (good view point). The storms pulled down some trees, a couple of power lines, and blew down the tents.

The storm hit during the cat 4 race, they only raced about 20 minutes before the wind and rained caused them to show one to go. All the races after that were called. Sort of disappointing because I think the long hill would have put me at more of an advantage seeing how the field had some trouble with the small grade yesterday.

All in all, I would say it was a great weekend. The courses, competition, and organization were all first rate. I will try to encourage some more to with me next year. This sort of racing only makes one a better racer.

Update:  it turns out we got some bum info and left town not knowing that it was only the Masters and Cat 3 races that were canceled.  The official we talked to indicated that all were off, but they ended up running the Men’s 1/2, Men’s P/1, and Women’s P/1/2 race.  It looks like a lot of people thought the same and left…  Andrea missed a good chance.  I wish they would have run our race (Cat 3).
